On February 10, Eugene Police received a report about a prowler on the 3300 block of Amherst Way. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Michael Christopher Anderson, was spotted entering backyards and inspecting houses. An officer deployed a drone, which found Anderson in a nearby backyard.
When officers tried to approach Anderson, he started jumping fences to escape. He ran through the Summer Oaks retirement complex and Crescent Park Apartments. However, upon seeing the police, he returned to Summer Oaks.
Officer Goodin and K9 Kaz from the K9 team attempted to stop Anderson as he left a backyard. Anderson ignored their commands and retreated. He then jumped a fence on the north side of the house where other officers were waiting.
Anderson was finally arrested without any further issues and taken to the Lane County Jail. He is charged with three counts of Second Degree Criminal Trespass and Escape From Custody.
The incident occurred at 10:10 p.m. and involved several officers and a drone. The drone played a key role in locating Anderson, leading to his arrest.
