OSAA state swimming championships: Here’s how Eugene-area athletes performed

Eugene-area swimmers vied for titles Saturday at the finals for the OSAA state swimming championships held at the Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center in Beaverton.

Here are takeaways on how swimmers performed in Class 6A, 5A and 4A/3A/2A/1A.

5A Eugene-area swimmers

One Eugene-area swimmer had a podium finish and another a Top 5 finish at the state tournament Saturday night.

Thurston’s Brody Wyatt placed second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.93.

“I was not expecting to win at all freshman year, but I feel good with second,” Wyatt said.

Earlier that night, the freshman placed fourth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.75.

Wyatt said he’s hoping to finish first next year.

Thurston sophomore Quinn Devenport placed fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.28.

Boys team scores — 1, West Albany, 76; 2, Crescent Valley, 57; 3, Summit, 53; 8, Thurston, 11.

Girls team scores — 1, Bend, 119; 2, Canby, 48; 3, Redmond, 33.

4A/3A/2A/1A Eugene-area swimmers

One Eugene-area swimmer was crowned an individual state champion, and two others had top podium finishes at the state tournament Saturday afternoon.
