Springfield plans street closures ahead of U.S. Olympic Trials 20k race walk

The U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials 20k race walk is Saturday in downtown Springfield, and travelers should be ready for some road closures and other traffic impacts.

Community members and visitors will have free access to the race beginning at 7 a.m.

Racers will compete on Main Street starting at 7:30 a.m. between Pioneer Parkway East and Fifth Street, and on Fifth Street between Main Street and C Street.

An awards ceremony will be held at the Springfield City Hall Plaza immediately following the race.

Street closures

Main Street will be closed at 14th Street and truck traffic traveling westbound on Main Street will be routed onto 42nd Street. Non-truck traffic will be routed onto 14th Street.

According to the city, street closures will also prohibit left turns from South A Street to Pioneer Parkway East, and Fourth to Ninth streets. For local access to these streets, drivers traveling eastbound on South A Street may use the designated detour via 14th Street.
