LGBTQIA-friendly Eugene bar Spectrum to close in August

EUGENE, Ore. – Just as Pride month came to a close at the end of June, sad news emerged about one of downtown Eugene’s favorite bars for the LGBTQIA community. Spectrum’s owner, Helen Shepard, announced the bar’s closure on Facebook on Monday, with its doors permanently closing on August 11. Shepard said, despite the closure of the beloved establishment, a new space will open in Eugene towards the end of this year. The Queer Resource Center will provide mental health services, clothing exchanges, and hopefully events similar to Spectrum such as poetry nights and fundraisers. Shepard said she will miss Spectrum and all it’s given her and the community.
