Man hospitalized following reported drive-by shooting incident in west Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. – One person was hospitalized following a drive-by shooting in west Eugene late on Tuesday evening, according to Eugene Police Department officials. Police responded to a 911 call for reported shots fired at about 11:30 p.m. on July 16 at The Bailey at Amazon Creek Apartments in the 3600 block of West 13th Avenue, according fire and EMS CAD records. Police said that the victim, a man of unknown age, was struck multiple times by gunfire and taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. Witnesses in the area told a KEZI 9 reporter that they heard what they thought was a group of teenagers hanging around the area where the shooting happened. Other neighbors said they heard about five gunshots, with some of the neighbors mistaking them for fireworks until they heard first responders arrive with lights and sirens. One of the neighbors, Sarah Jopy, said she heard the commotion and rushed to help when she saw the victim outside.
