Romeo, the world’s tallest steer, inspires a festival in Creswell

O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?

If you haven’t heard the moos, the heartthrob has been living his best life at the Welcome Home Animal Sanctuary near Creswell for almost seven years. And he is kind of a big deal.

Standing an impressive 6 feet 4.5 inches at the withers, the Holstein has earned the 2025 Guinness World Record for the world’s tallest living steer.

In celebration, the City of Creswell is hosting Romeo’s Fall Festival in his honor on Saturday, Sept. 21. The party will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Harry Holt Memorial Park at 127 N. 4th Street in Creswell. Activities include local vendors, a homemade scarecrow contest, pumpkin chucking, a pet dress-up contest and live music.

“The city contacted us and we’re like, yeah, let’s do it,” said sanctuary founder Misty Moore. “We’re just trying to spread kindness and compassion towards animals and they’re embracing that.”

Everyone will be there but Romeo himself. “Our goal is to make sure the animals are always comfortable,” said Moore. “We’re going to open up the sanctuary that day so you can sign up to come meet him. We’ll have people here (at the sanctuary) all day.”
