A relocation, a closure and a food fair: Eugene restaurant roundup

A lot is happening this week on the Eugene food scene. Locals will have the opportunity to meet the people supplying their groceries at the Market of Choice Product Experience Show on Thursday, where Market of Choice vendors will sample their goods out at Venue 252.

Mi Café is in the middle of cleaning out its West 11th location, in hopes of finding a fresh start in Springfield.

And Swallowtail Spirits closed last week in Springfield, hosting an open mic on their final night.

Fresh slate, new horizons as Mi Café moves from Eugene to Springfield

Mi Café, a coffee shop and taqueria formerly located on West 11th Avenue, closed its doors on Friday. The café will be moving to a new space in Springfield, one that will hopefully work better for the business model that owner Javier Cano wants to run.

Cano struggled to find his groove on West 11th Avenue. He originally found the space for Mi Café when taking his kids to taekwondo next door to Mi Café’s former location, at US Taekwondo College. But what he thought would be a fun business venture turned out to come with a lot of hoops for him to jump through.
