COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – A Cottage Grove caregiver is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from an elderly victim, according to Lane County Circuit Court records. Court documents said that the theft was initially discovered in December 2023 when the victim and her daughter went to the police station to file a report. The caregiver, identified as Leslie Morford, 39, has allegedly taken almost $3,000 from the victim’s credit card and more than $1,200 from her bank account, according to court documents. Court records show that Morford served as the victim’s caregiver for the last five years and was question by police officers soon after. Morford allegedly admitted to taking the money for online gaming and to purchase books within the last year, according to court documents. Court records said that Morford estimated she took about $1,900, she was apologetic in her confession, and she said she thought she would be able to pay the money back.
