Eugene BRiGHT Parade lights up downtown

The Eugene BRiGHT Parade illuminated the streets of downtown Eugene Saturday night.

In its second year, the event brought a whimsical array of lighted costumes, cheering fans and live music to the downtown core.

“There’s so many people that were smiling and so happy to see all of this beautiful creativity,” said Jerril Nilson, co-organizer of the event.

Starting at the intersection of East 8th Ave. and Oak St., the group of marchers, cyclists, horseback riders, dancers and more made their way around a 16-block loop to return to the Farmers Market Pavilion.

Near the front of the parade, “raining” S.L.U.G queen Panda SnuggleSlug, a.k.a. Panda Bennett, led a group of “Old Queens” alongside her family.

“This is what Eugene is,” she said. “It’s weird and beautiful and colorful.”

Dressed as a butterfly with light-up wings, Diana Stearns danced along the parade route, chased closely by Ron Budd with a large lighted net. The pair joined fellow parade participants with the Materials Exchange Center for Community Arts.
