McKenzie Pass, Blue River areas to reopen as wildfires come under control

The McKenzie Pass and Blue River Reservoir areas will reopen for recreation on Tuesday after two wildfires east of Eugene came under control.

It’s good news for hunters, anglers and backpackers seeking to explore popular areas in the McKenzie corridor and pass area along highways 126 and 242.

“Although fire season is not yet over, we feel confident about the progress fire crews are making on wildfires,” said McKenzie River District Ranger Darren Cross. “We want to make sure people can get back out there and enjoy their favorite places as soon as it is safe to do so.”

The popular McKenzie Pass area and Highway 242 should largely reopen this week following a mellowing of the Linton Fire, which was burning on the west side of the Three Sisters Wilderness.

The move should reopen access to more than 90 recreation sites and trails in the McKenzie River and Middle Fork Ranger Districts.

Newly reopened recreation opportunities include Proxy Falls, Aufderheide Drive and portions of the Three Sisters and Mount Washington wilderness areas.
