Bicyclist killed in crash on Beltline Highway in Eugene

A man riding a bicycle was struck and killed late Sunday attempting to cross the Beltline Highway between West 11th Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard, according to the Eugene Police Department.

Officers responded to the scene just before 8 p.m. after receiving reports of the crash. Investigators said the man had been riding his bicycle along the shoulder of the highway when he tried to cross and was hit by a Toyota Prius.

The driver of the Prius reportedly remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. Bystanders in the area performed CPR on the bicyclist, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the bicyclist was not immediately released. Lack of lighting equipment on the bicycle may have been a factor in the crash, according to the EPD.
