Miami Coach Mario Cristobal Under Fire After Costly Blunder Fuels Upset Loss to Georgia Tech

Fans of the Oregon Ducks tried to warn the Miami Hurricanes faithful a few years ago when head coach Mario Cristobal left Eugene to take over at his alma mater down in South Beach — be careful getting your hopes up.

While Cristobal has proven to be a solid coach, and an excellent recruiter, there are times, particularly in late-game scenarios, where it appears that the moment gets too big for him. Simple mistakes lead to massive losses, and the high expectations never seem to get reached.

It happened in Eugene with the Ducks, and we saw it happen at times over the last two years in Miami.

On Saturday, we saw those high expectations come falling down for the Hurricanes, as 9-0 Miami suffered its first loss of the year to an unranked Georgia Tech team, 28-23. In the game, some late-game decision-making — taking a timeout coming out of the 2-minute warning, in particular — left Cristobal open to a world of criticism on social media.
