Eugene man charged with arson after fire in grocery store trash compactor

EUGENE, Ore. – A Eugene man has been charged with arson after a fire on Saturday night that threatened to scorch a grocery store. Court documents show firefighters responded to a reported dumpster fire at the Target on west 11th Avenue in Eugene just after 11 p.m. on January 4. Firefighters arrived and learned the fire was in a large trash compactor connected to the store that was threatening the business. The fire was extinguished and contained to the compactor with no injuries reported.
