Florence man accused of threatening neighbor with rifle faces menacing and weapons charges

FLORENCE, Ore. – A 42-year-old Florence man was arrested on Saturday afternoon after allegedly threatening to shoot his neighbor with a gun before firing it several times nearby, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.

LCSO officials said they responded at about 4 p.m. on February 8 to the 5400 block of Bay Berry Drive in Florence for a reported trespassing incident involving a man with a rifle. Responding deputies arrived and learned that the man, identified as Joshua Allen Cooper, had reportedly trespassed onto his neighbor’s property, sheriff’s officials said. Authorities said that when he was confronted by a homeowner, Cooper allegedly threatened to shoot him and then fired the rifle several times nearby. Deputies contacted Cooper at his home where he was arrested and transported to the Lane County Jail, sheriff’s authorities said.
