Pacific Northwest Weather Alert: Heavy Snow and Strong Winds Until 11 PM

Portland, OR – A powerful winter storm is bringing heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions to the Cascades of Oregon and southern Washington. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning, in effect until 11 PM PDT Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, the storm is expected to drop up to 15 inches of snow, with higher elevations above 5,000 feet potentially receiving up to 20 inches. Winds are also expected to gust up to 35 mph, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of snowdrifts.

The warning affects areas including Larch Mountain, Indian Heaven Wilderness, Santiam Junction, Waldo Lake, Mt. St. Helens, Breitenbush Springs, Timothy Lake, Tombstone Summit, McKenzie Pass, Willamette Pass, Government Camp, Bennett Pass, Santiam Pass, and Lost Lake
