Counterfeit money reportedly passed at west Eugene businesses

EUGENE, Ore. – Counterfeit money has reportedly been recently passed at businesses in west Eugene, according to a Bethel Neighborhood Watch page on Facebook.

Phony money was used in multiple purchases, including a McDonald’s and a convenience store. A Facebook post reported that a woman used fake $10 bills to pay for a $30 order at McDonald’s and tried to the same thing the next day but quickly left when employees called her out. One man who found three of the bogus bills on the sidewalk of Barger Drive thought he’d hit the jackpot until he looked closer.

“I crossed the little crosswalk and was walking on the opposite side,” said Jeff McCollum, finder of the fake bills. “And, in the dark, I saw what looked like a dollar bill so I stopped and picked it up. It looked like a hundred and I noticed two more in close proximity.”…
