FLORENCE, Ore. – A woman who allegedly tried to set a vehicle on fire was arrested near Florence on Friday afternoon, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
LCSO officials said they responded at about 12:40 p.m. on March 28 to a reported incident of arson on Sutton Outlet Road near Florence. A person was out for a run in the area returned to their vehicle and found a sock burning in the gas tank filler area, sheriff’s authorities said. Lane County sheriff’s officials said that the victim was able to remove and extinguish the burning sock and fire personnel responded to the scene as a precautionary measure. The victim told sheriff’s deputies that he’d seen a woman, later identified as 33-year-old Elizabeth Louise Jeffrey of Texas, walking away from his vehicle, authorities said. Deputies said that Jeffrey climbed on top of the vehicle of a nearby U.S. Forest Service employee that was working in the area. A sheriff’s deputy and the Forest Service employee convinced Jeffrey to come down off the vehicle and was seen in possession of a sock matching the one burned found in the victim’s car’s gas filler, authorities said…
