EUGENE, Ore. – A man allegedly wielding a knife was taken into custody by Eugene police after an incident at a local convenience store on Tuesday, authorities said.
According to the Eugene Police Department, at about 3:11 a.m. on April 1, Officers responded to a report of a disorderly individual at the 7-Eleven located on South Bertelsen Road. Despite limited staffing due to another incident, police arrived to find Matthew Anthony Marks, age 43, matching the suspect’s description. Marks had allegedly entered the store, inquired about a lighter, and left with the lighter without paying. When confronted by an employee, Marks threatened to kill the employee and brandished a knife, police said.
Police maintained a safe distance while issuing commands and telling Marks he was under arrest. Marks covered himself with a blanket, and additional officers arrived with less lethal options.
