Eugene taking steps to improve student safety with Safe Routes to School

EUGENE, Ore. – The City of Eugene is taking steps to enhance safety for students commuting to and from school on the south side of town.

Eugene officials said the city recently received several Safe Routes to School grants. While the funding will not cover construction costs, it will aid in developing a plan for 30th Avenue and Camas Ridge Community School. Community members met at the school on April 2 to assess current conditions and brainstorm safety improvements for those who walk, bike, and roll between school and home.

“The community has been voicing with the city a lot that this area is a real place of concern. It separates the two neighborhoods from being able to access each other and it’s a huge barrier walking and biking to school,” said Amelia Adams, an Active Transportation Planner with Alta Planning…
