Gas leak prompts evacuation of Eugene commercial building

EUGENE, Ore. — On Thursday morning, Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) responded to a potential natural gas leak at 525 High Street in Eugene. The incident, reported at 8:47 a.m., involved a building with multiple commercial occupancies.

ESF tells us, Northwest Natural (NWN) arrived on the scene and confirmed the presence of a potential gas leak inside the building. ESF responded with a substantial deployment, including 4 engines, 2 trucks, 2 battalion chiefs, and an ambulance.

Upon arrival, ESF crews tell us they detected natural gas emanating from within the building. A complete evacuation of the building’s six occupancies was initiated. Crews worked diligently, moving from business to business to ventilate gas from multiple areas within the structure…
