Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for 2020 shooting in Rogue River

JACKSON COUNTY, Ore. — A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison stemming from a shooting on November 4, 2020 in Rogue River. Joshua Robert Miller pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree manslaughter and two counts of second-degree abuse of a corpse.

The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office said that the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) responded to a reported shooting on November 4, 2020 at a hemp farm on East Evans Creek Road in Rogue River. Once deputies and members of the Rogue River Police Department arrived on scene, witnesses told them that Miller had shot Shane and Duane Roork and fled the scene with their bodies.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, JCSO activated the Jackson County Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit (MADIU), made up of detectives from JCSO, Oregon State Police, Medford Police Department, Central Point Police Department, Ashland Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office. Law enforcement activated SWAT, with the United States Marshals Service helping with the manhunt.
