PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — A man is determined to volunteer in all 50 states after doctors diagnosed him with terminal prostate cancer.
In early 2025, the cancer reached its fourth stage, giving Doug Ruch, 55, from Texas, no more than 18 months to live. Instead of waiting, Ruch chose to give back.
“When you get hit with that kind of news, it really makes you think about life and what you’ve done,” Ruch said. “I decided I was going to do some good.”

Ruch started his journey on March 17, 2025, and has since volunteered in nine states.
