My name is Eli Thomas, and I am the Herald’s new sportswriter. I am a Senior Journalism student at the University of Oregon and will graduate in June.
Any weekend when I was growing up where I did not have sports to play, which was not many, I would be planted on the couch watching sports. I always knew I wanted to work in sports and have been lucky enough to make that dream a reality.
My method of sports coverage involves blending my own knowledge of sports from playing and watching with statistical analysis. I enjoy combing through statistics to find the story in them almost as much as watching the games. More than anything, I want to invite readers to focus on the positives of sports rather than the negatives, because sometimes we can lose sight of how beautiful and fun they are…
