FRIDAY, APRIL 4
• 9:08 p.m. — Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 about 8 miles west and south of Shaniko in Wasco County that took the life of a 7-year-old boy. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that a 34-year-old Spokane, Washington, man was driving south in a Honda CRV and while attempting to pass a commercial vehicle in a no-passing zone, struck head-on a Volkswagen Atlas driven by a 45-year-old Pendleton man. A passenger in the Honda, the 7-year-old, was airlifted via LifeFlight and later declared deceased. The Honda’s driver and another passenger, a 4-year-old boy, were seriously injured and transported to an area hospital. The Volkswagen’s driver and passengers, a 46-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy, all of Pendleton, were seriously injured and transported to an area hospital. OSP considered an unlawful pass to be the primary cause of the crash…
