Lane County K-9 tracks down man suspected of assault

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – A man is in jail on charges including assault after a police dog unit tracked him down on Saturday night, Lane County deputies said.

According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, at about 10:20 p.m. on April 12, deputies responded to a fight on Rachel Road south of Cottage Grove. Deputies said the caller told them that the caller had been in a fight with Devin Derry Morgan, 29, of Cottage Grove, but the caller had been able to get away. The LCSO said the first deputy on the scene learned that Morgan had left the scene following some nearby railroad tracks. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Deputies said that while the victim was taken to the hospital, more law enforcement officers arrived and established a perimeter. LCSO K-9 Tito and his handler began searching the area, and Springfield Police Department arrived with a drone to help search for Morgan. Deputies said K-9 Tito eventually found Morgan hiding under a tree several hundred yards away, and he was arrested without further incident.
