COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – A Cottage Grove man is being arraigned Monday on charges including driving under the influence of intoxicants after allegedly driving the wrong way down a closed street and telling an officer he had ingested marijuana back in March.
According to court documents on March 28, Cottage Grove Police Department officers responded to a report of a wrong way driver on north River Road and east Main Street. Court documents said officers found a Chevrolet Camaro with no headlights on, parked in the wrong lane of travel, on a section of road that had been closed with orange cones and signage to all eastbound traffic. In the vehicle, officers found Roy Dean Riggs, 69, court records said.
According to court records, when police questioned Riggs, he allegedly giggled and said he had ingested marijuana about three hours before he was stopped. When asked how much marijuana he had ingested, Riggs allegedly replied “not enough.” Court documents said Riggs could not perform some field sobriety tests for his safety, as police said he was unsteady on his feet.
