SHASTA LAKE, Calif. – The unofficial start of summer is upon Shasta Lake, as more than a thousand college students flock to Slaughterhouse Island for Mother’s Day weekend. This annual gathering is a long-standing tradition that draws crowds from Oregon State University and the University of Oregon.
Jack Phillips, an Oregon State student tells Action News Now, “Yeah, this is a tradition that’s been going on for years and years, and it’s pretty nostalgic. My parents, actually, were Oregon State students back in the ’80s, and it’s pretty cool that the tradition is still being carried on for years to come.”
Noah Fischer, a University of Oregon student, said, “You know, this is a weekend where you put all the rivalries aside. Ducks versus Beavers, none of that stuff matters and you just go out on the lake and have fun.”…
