Two early runs had the Hops going in the right direction, but their hopes of a fourth straight win over the Emeralds were quickly dashed in what amounted to an 8-2 defeat to Eugene on Saturday, May 10, at Hillsboro Ballpark.
The Hops got runs on a Ryan Waldschmidt double, followed by a Kenny Castillo base hit to take a 2-0 first inning lead. But while Hillsboro bats fizzled going forward, the Ems’ were just heating up to the tune of two runs in the third inning, two more in the fourth, three in the sixth, and a final one in the seventh.
Eugene was aided by two Hops errors, but were led by Jonah Cox, Quinn McDaniel and Luke Shliger who had two hits apiece…
