EUGENE, Ore. – A Eugene couple let a construction worker use their bathroom and found thousands of dollars in jewelry missing after he left, according to court records. That construction worker has been charged with theft after allegedly failing to return the most expensive pieces, claiming to have flushed them down the toilet.
According to court records, in April a couple on Douthit Lane in Eugene was having a shop built on their property when one of the workers asked to use their bathroom. After the worker left the bathroom, the couple allegedly found that thousands of dollars in jewelry – including a $15,550 pair of diamond and platinum earrings – were missing. The homeowners contacted the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, and a deputy responded to investigate the possible theft on April 11.
Court records said the couple told deputies they wouldn’t press charges if their items were returned. However, when deputies contacted the worker, identified in court records as Jaymen Williams, 20, of Lyons, he allegedly said he had accidentally knocked over a jewelry box and several pieces fell into the toilet. Williams allegedly told deputies that he didn’t want to fish anything out of the toilet, and so he flushed the items down. However, after consenting to a search, several rings and other items were found in his lunchbox, according to court records…
