Merrill Gardens expands portfolio with 3 communities in Oregon

Seattle-based Merrill Gardens has expanded its footprint with the acquisition of three communities in the Portland, OR, area.

The operator already has 12 communities in Washington state, 22 communities in California, and one in Eugene, OR, a spokesperson for the family-owned business told the McKnight’s Business Daily, describing the Oregon communities as “an excellent addition to our existing portfolio” of communities on the West Coast.

The recently acquired properties:

  • Merrill Gardens at Cedar Mill in Portland, OR, was built in 2016 and has 147 apartments with independent living, assisted living and memory care.
  • Merrill Gardens at Sherwood in Sherwood, OR, was built in 2019 and has 137 apartments with independent living, assisted living and memory care.
  • Merrill Gardens at Hillsboro is in Hillsboro, OR, just outside Portland. The community opened in 2024 and has 141 apartments offering independent living and assisted living.

The Cedar Mill and Sherwood properties are part of a joint venture with PGIM. The communities were acquired from a Portland, OR-based ownership group led by Rembold. The community at Hillsboro was developed by Pilar Properties, Merrill Gardens’ sister company, and also is part of the joint venture with PGIM. Merrill Gardens will manage all three communities…
