Eugene restaurant’s ‘pay it forward’ concept aims to help feed the hungry

EUGENE, Ore. – As sweeping cuts to assistance programs continue, one Eugene restaurant is feeding those in need for free.

The Acorn Community Café uses a ‘Pay It Forward’ model where, instead of asking paying customers for tips, staff is encouraging patrons to donate money towards meal vouchers for other patrons.

“This was inspired by our lives, my life and my partners life,” said Miranda Mckeever, co-owner of Acorn Community Cafe. “We both grew up with different experiences with food insecurities and both started our working careers in restaurants.”…
