Lane County sees increase in homelessness in latest Point In Time Count Data

LANE COUNTY, Ore. — The chilly winter temperatures are helping Lane County get a better count of homeless in the area.

The annual one-night “Point-in-Time” — or PIT count was conducted on January 29th, when the cold weather opened up an additional 500 beds to provide shelter to the unhoused during the deadly cold temperatures.

According to the latest numbers, the homeless population in Lane County continues to grow, increasing by 14% from this time last year, from 3.085 in 2024 to ,509 in 2025. That could mean an additional 424 people were experiencing homelessness that night, although the increase could be attributed to more people in warming centers and not an actual increase in the homeless population…
