After backlash, Oregon will extradite suspect in Eugene burglaries case

Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek has approved one of Lane County’s requests to extradite a suspect tied to a burglary ring that allegedly targeted members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community in Oregon. A second extradition request remains unresolved.

The move comes after Kotek faced public backlash from the AAPI community and local leaders for initially denying the allocation of money to fund a related extradition request involving a suspect being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“After further communication with the Lane County DA’s office and review of the information provided, the Extradition Office moved forward with funding the extradition for one fugitive in Texas,” said Kotek’s spokesperson, Roxy Mayer. “The funding for the extradition for the previously reported fugitive who is in custody in Texas with an ICE hold is still not moving forward.”…
