Firefighters respond quickly to attic fire in Springfield home

EUGENE, Ore. – Fire crews from Eugene Springfield Fire swiftly responded to a house fire on the 4900 block of D Street in Springfield on Sunday evening.

Just before 8 p.m. on June 29, reports of smoke coming from a home prompted multiple calls from concerned neighbors. The house, abandoned for about a year, was recently purchased and undergoing renovations.

“There’s a lot of debris inside the attic, so we just think with the heat and everything that’s happening today, that maybe something combusted in the attic,” said Robert Grand, a firefighter with Eugene Springfield Fire, “and lit off the attic space and we were able to get here quickly and knock it down pretty quick.”…
