Summer a prime time for bike thefts in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. — It’s a crime that catches people by surprise, and Eugene Police Department says bike theft is a crime of opportunity, and right now thieves are looking for an easy target.

Sixty-four miles of paths and nearly 200 miles of on-street bike lanes make Eugene a certified Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists, but more bikes mean hot spots for bike thefts.
