EUGENE, Ore. — License plate readers – or “flock cameras” – were the subject of discussion for the Eugene Police Commission meeting Thursday night.
Activists opposed to the use of flock cameras came out to express their views, with some mentioning how members of the police commission had been working to build a culture of community collaboration, and saying these cameras go against that goal.
“I was horrified to see that [the Eugene Police Department] had implemented an Orwellian panopticon in the age of Donald Trump in 2025 America without any consultation with the people that you sat next to and said that you wanted to consult. And that’s really upsetting. I think we as a city deserve better,” said Anna Lardner, an organizer with Trans Alliance of Lane County. “When this administration comes for me and gives specific federal warrants to come for me, this system can be used to do that.”…
