SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Young children in Springfield are gearing up for a unique educational experience as Safety Town begins its two-week camp on Monday.
This program is designed for kindergartners to learn essential life skills, such as stranger danger, fire and animal safety, and home and poison safety. Participants will practice pedestrian and traffic safety in a specially designed mini town complete with crosswalks and faux homes. The program also prepares kids for kindergarten by teaching them to form a line, stay quiet, and respect guest speakers.
Safety Town will take place at Yolanda Elementary School, offering both morning and afternoon sessions. Currently, registration is open for children ages 5 to 6. The camp has been a staple for decades, with many former participants returning as volunteers. The registration fee is $40, which includes a shirt for the Safety Town Graduation ceremony.
