EUGENE, Ore. – A man was arrested Saturday evening after attempting to purchase gift cards with fraudulent means at the Santa Clara area Fred Meyer store on July 12, according to Eugene Police Department.
EPD officials said that, just before 7 p.m. on July 12, officers were notified of a man who had allegedly entered the store and attempted to fraudulently buy gift cards. When responding officers arrived, a loss prevention employee provided police with a description and photo of the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Andrew Shae Tayborne, who an officer spotted leaving the store. A short time later, an officer pulled over Tayborne, who had previously been banned from the store and is on post-prison supervision for identity theft, over at Ross Lane and Lone Oak Avenue. The officer called for backup after witnessing Tayborne reaching for something in the backseat of his vehicle, police said.
Tayborne was found with more than 30 pieces of fraudulent ID, 264 checks, 10.7 grams of meth, 2.8 ounces of marijuana, and two loaded firearms, police said. Authorities said that Tayborne was also reportedly in possession of a replica BB gun resembling an AR-15 style rifle.
