Whiteaker neighborhood dispute leads to arrest of armed man

EUGENE, Ore. – A 47-year-old Eugene man was arrested on Tuesday evening for allegedly brandishing and swinging a bar at neighbors in the Whitaker neighborhood, according to the Eugene Police Department.

EPD officials said they responded at 9:41 p.m. to a dispute occurring on Cheshire Avenue. Simon Eduardo Manso, 47, was reportedly armed with a bar and swinging it at neighbors. A neighbor armed himself with a handgun and gunshots were reportedly heard in the area, police said. Manso allegedly assaulted and attempted to run over his landlord and other neighbors with his vehicle. He was later located driving on River Road, where he was stopped by police after pulling into a gas station. Manso initially resisted cooperation, stripping off his clothes before eventually putting them back on, police officials said.

Manso was arrested and taken to Lane County Jail where he faces charges that include three counts of unlawful use of a weapon, three counts of menacing, harassment, third-degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, and three counts of reckless endangering.
