If you’re worried you missed the boat on swimming lessons for yourself or your child this summer, fear not: Many community pools have options for beginning swimmers of all ages. Here’s where to go:
City of Eugene pools
The Amazon, Echo Hollow and Sheldon pools offer swimming lessons in sessions throughout the summer. The next available session is Aug. 11-18. Sessions include two classes a week, and each class lasts 30 minutes. Classes are for children as young as 6 months, with a caregiver. Prices range from $36 to $48.
Youth options
- StarBabies: 6 to 18 months, with a caregiver
- StarTots: 18 to 36 months, with a caregiver
- Swim School: 3 to 13, based on skill
- Stroke School: 3 to 13, based on skill
- Teen Swim Lessons: 14 to 17
Adult options
- Adult Swim Lessons: 18 and over
Private options
- Private lessons: $30 per class;
- Semiprivate lessons: $18 per person per class.
The Amazon pool is an outdoor pool at 2600 Hilyard St.; Sheldon is indoor at 2443 Willakenzie Road; Echo Hollow has both indoor and outdoor pools, though lessons are taught in the outdoor pool, at 1655 Echo Hollow Road.
Willamalane pools
At Willamalane Park Swim Center, 1276 G St., group swim lessons are available for children 6 months to 13 years in the indoor pool. The fees for eight 30-minute classes range from $46 for Willamalane Park and Recreation District residents to $58 for out-of-district residents.
Swim Center youth options
- Baby and toddler: 6 months to 36 months, with a caregiver
- Preschool: 3 to 4 years old
- School age: 5 to 13 years old
Swim Center adult options
- No group lessons for adults
- Private lessons are available for $30 per lesson for district residents and $40 for out-of-district residents
Splash is an indoor waterpark facility at 6100 Thurston Road that offers a wave pool, kiddie pool, waterslide, lap pool, spa pool and swimming lessons once a week throughout August. The fees are the same.
Splash youth options
- Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., 30-minute classes for children 12 and under
Eugene Family YMCA
The YMCA at 600 E. 24th Ave. in Eugene offers group swim lessons and private and semiprivate swim lessons in the indoor pool. Students are divided by age groups.
Youth options
- Parent and child: 6 months to 3 years
- Preschool: Ages 3 to 5
- School age: Ages 5 to 12
Morning swim lessons are Tuesdays and Thursdays for four weeks and afternoon swim lessons are Mondays through Thursdays for two weeks. Lessons are $45 and sessions end on Aug. 14.
Adult options
- Private lessons are $30 for members and $35 for nonmembers
- Semiprivate lessons are $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers.
River Road Park & Recreation District
Summer swimming lessons are $49.50 for River Road Park district residents and $67.50 for out-of-district residents. The next session runs from Aug. 4-20 in the indoor pool, 1400 Lake Drive.
Youth options
- Ages 3 and up, groups are based on skills
Downtown Athletic Club
Both youth and adult swim lessons are available to members and guests in the club’s indoor pool, 999 Willamette St. Each lesson is 30 minutes.

Adult options
- Private and semiprivate lessons are available. For nonmembers, semiprivate lessons are $30 and private lessons are $40.
InstaSwim
InstaSwim is an online service that offers private swim lessons for babies as young as 6 months old to adults. Lessons can be available at home, a community pool or any pool that a student can access.
