New study shows walking could help prevent developing Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, with 7.2 million Americans over the age of 65 currently living with the disease. However, there is a promising new finding that could help reduce the risk of developing it; walking.

Brianna Axline of Community Health Centers of Lane County says walking or participating in any other physical activity can lower the risk of developing the disease, “You know prevention and walking really has a big impact on our health. So even if people are at higher risk or have family history, we know that walking and just healthcare maintenance and prevention can really have an impact on future conditions.”

Axline goes on to explain why the physical movements make an impact on prevention, “So walking does a lot of things. It helps with cardiovascular health, and it helps with brain function too, that forward movement and sometimes even having connection if you’re walking with someone, can really improve that cognitive function and help with prevention,” said Axline…
