During the Hult Center’s run of MJ the Musical, the Community Corner was popping with 100 years of pop history. Located outside the Soreng Theater, the Community Corner is a space for everyone to collaborate, create, and engage with the shows being put on at the Hult Center. With Michael Jackson’s pop music at the core of MJ the Musical, the Community Corner transformed into a pop history timeline starting with the jazz age of the 1920s and spanning all the way to the current times of the 2020s.
Folks were asked to contribute to the timeline by writing the name of a song that spoke to them. Whether it was a song that was popular the year they were born or one within our 100 Years of Pop binder, we wanted everyone to have the chance to add to the timeline. By the end of the musical’s run the timeline was filled with over 150 songs all written out on little paper records.
From all of those songs, we created the ultimate 100 Years of Pop playlist. Starting with the hits of the 1920s and ending with the bangers of the 2020s, the playlist takes the timeline from the Community Corner and brings it to life…
