Saturday featured sunny skies and above-average metro area temperatures reaching the mid to upper 80s. The Portland International Airport officially hit 87 degrees.
HOT SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY
Not much has changed for Sunday and Monday’s forecast: temperatures will be in the upper 90s around Portland, and I still think we’ll dodge 100 degrees without a significant easterly breeze. Areas to our south along the I-5 corridor like Salem and Eugene could definitely see the triple digits both days. Prepare for scorching hot afternoons.
What has changed is Tuesday’s temperature forecast: the upper atmosphere is staying warmer longer now because the high pressure center is lingering off our coastline through Tuesday morning before it starts to trek westward away from us. That means the trough that’s coming to cool us down has been delayed slightly. We bumped Tuesday’s high to the mid 90s, and we are feeling more confident that the western valleys will be experiencing three consecutive days with 90+ degree temperatures (our unofficial definition of a heat wave!)…
