Poppi’s Anatolia is filled with character. Wood beams crisscross the space, and plants hang down from the rafters. Smells from the kitchen waft out onto Willamette Street, inviting guests inside to feast on mountains of hummus, pita, dolmas and other Greek specialties.
Soon, this well known space will be empty. Poppi’s Anatolia is stepping into a new chapter, returning to its Greek roots with its menu, and expanding into a new space at 5th Street Public Market.
Poppi’s through the years
Poppi’s Anatolia, which was originally called Poppi’s Greek Taverna, was opened by Poppi Cottam in 1977. The restaurant rebranded to Poppi’s Anatolia in the late ’80s, when they started including Indian food on their menu.
Shanti Walling, the current co-owner of the restaurant, has been involved with Poppi’s since 2018, and has been a co-owner since 2023. She and her life partner, Brandt Schram, are carrying the restaurant into its next era, while still maintaining the old-school spirit that makes it special…
