Hot Temperatures, Spotty Storm Chances

Friday, we saw cities like Eugene tie or break daily high-temperature records, and similar scorching conditions are expected for this weekend. Inland valleys are expecting highs it the upper 90s and low 100s Sunday. Many daily high temperature records are once again at risk for being challenged.

This sustained heat is from to a strong high-pressure system bringing well-above-average temperatures. We are anticipating a slight weakening trend in this system starting Monday into Tuesday, which should bring a small reprieve to daytime temperatures. You might notice cooler conditions, dropping into the 70s and 80s, especially in areas like the Coast Range and Cascades. However, the inland valleys, including much of the Willamette Valley, are still expected to remain hot, with temperatures likely staying above 90 degrees through Tuesday.

Warm overnight lows are also part of this story, with most inland locations staying in the mid to upper 60s, making it difficult for buildings without air conditioning to cool down sufficiently. This prolonged period of heat and muggy nights means we are in a Moderate to Major Heat Risk situation through Wednesday, so please remember to take extra precautions and stay hydrated…
