Emigrant Fire update: Springfield braces for more smoke and danger

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Firefighters are actively battling the Emigrant Fire in the Middle Fork Ranger District that was sparked by lightning on Sunday.

The blaze has rapidly expanded to 1,200 acres due to hot and windy conditions. According to fire officials, the fire is located 3 miles southwest of Indigo Springs Campground. Crews, helicopters, and large equipment are on the scene, with more resources on the way. An Infrared Flight helped update the fire’s size and location. Due to ongoing unstable conditions, further growth is anticipated, posing challenges for containment efforts.
