A stolen vehicle caught fire and its driver was apprehended following a pursuit early in the morning hours of Aug. 29, Springfield Police said.
According to SPD, officers attempted to stop the driver of a vehicle reported as stolen from the Salem area. The driver fled the traffic stop near the intersection of Beltline Road and Gateway Street.
During the pursuit, the suspect drove the wrong way on Beltline Road and collided with an SPD patrol car, but Springfield and Eugene police eventually caught up to the suspect and stopped him on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in front of PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center RiverBend.
