Willamette forest closure order grows as Emigrant Fire operations intensify

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Willamette National Forest officials said they have expanded the emergency closure order for the Emigrant Fire, initially reported on Aug. 24.

The closure aims to ensure safety and assist in fire suppression efforts and will last until Nov. 26, unless changed. The Emigrant Fire, sparked by lightning, spans approximately 26,135 acres near Indigo Springs Campground. Firefighters are using heavy machinery to remove hazardous fuels and strengthen fire lines, enhancing protection for nearby communities.

Newly closed areas include Camper’s Flat Campground, Secret Campground, and several Forest Service roads. However, the Pacific Crest Trail and Diamond Peak Wilderness remain open…
