Standoff in Cottage Grove ends with arrest of assault suspect

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – A 25-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting a woman at a Cottage Grove residence, according to the Cottage Grove Police Department.

Dispatch logs show that law enforcement and emergency personnel responded at about 5 a.m. on Sept. 5 to an assault on Sept. 5 at an East Madison Avenue home. CGPD officials said that Fernando G. Rodas Martin was identified as the suspect. Officers arrived to find the female victim, while Rodas Martin had fled but later returned, prompting police to establish a perimeter. Probable cause was found to arrest Rodas Martin, assisted by the Lane County Sheriff’s Office. Despite attempts to contact him, Rodas Martin did not respond. A search warrant was secured, and the Lane County Sheriff’s Special Response Team, along with the Cottage Grove Police K-9 unit, entered the apartment. Rodas Martin was arrested without incident and transported to the Lane County Jail where he faces a charge of fourth-degree assault. Jail records show he is in custody as of Sept. 5…
