Cottage Grove man arrested following court-ordered eviction standoff

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – Lane County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Cottage Grove man on Monday following an hours-long standoff related to a court-ordered standoff, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.

LCSO officials said deputies responded at about 10 a.m. on Sept. 15 to a home on South 6th Street to serve a court-ordered eviction. As deputies ensured the home was empty, a man inside allegedly made threatening remarks and the deputies exited the home, authorities said. A negotiation team arrived to de-escalate the situation and contacted the home’s occupant, who refused to come out of the residence. Sheriff’s deputies said that the occupant reportedly continued to make threatening statements and allegedly owned numerous firearms. Armored rescue vehicles were dispatched to the area for the evacuation of local residents and to provide cover for deputies. The occupant of the home surrendered after several hours of negotiation and was detained before being taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation, sheriff’s officials said…
